The Closer Report: May 10, 2010
Huston Street has a rehab program setup by the Rockies. He will make five appearances between AA and AAA before returning to the Rockies in roughly two weeks.
Manny Corpas will be closing for the Rockies over the next two weeks, not Franklin Morales. Corpas has been outstanding this season with a 1.66 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. Pick him up if you need him.
Matt Capps got the night off and old school closer/reliever/starter Miguel Batista got the save in his place.
SAVES:
Jonathan Papelbon (9) - Had a brilliant 1-2-3 save on 13 pitches tonight. Struck out Fred Lewis on three pitches to open the inning. He looked outstanding and his splitter was spot on and hitting 90 MPH.BLOWN SAVES:
Brian Fuentes (BS2) - Fuentes got lit up by Willie Aybar and Evan Longoria. His days as closer have to be numbered. He 4/6 in save chances and rarely looks good. Fernando Rodney is just better and the Angels know it.
APPEARANCES:
Carlos Marmol - No save for Marmol, but another inning and three more strikeouts. He did rip up his WHIP with two walks and a hit, but he is just pitching out of this world. He already has 30 Ks.
Manny Corpas - Not sure if he is the closer, but he was brough in the game with a 5-5 and promptly got lit up for four runs, which three came off a Ross Gload 3-run homer. Tracy can't pray hard enough for Street to come back.
