CLOSER NEWS AND NOTES:
Trevor Hoffman blew his fifth save of the season. He has to be out of a job.
SAVES:

Jonathan Papelbon (10)- Papelbon came up big for the Red Sox securing a 7-6 comeback. Robinson Cano lead off the ninth inning with a double and ended up being stranded at third base. Paps struck out Randy Winn to end the came and it was a huge relief for Red Sox nation after he blew the save last night. Overall, 1 hit, one walk, one strikeout, and one save.
Neftali Feliz (11) - Brilliant performance for Feliz. He had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikouts. Granted he needed 17 pitches, he was clearly under control of a game that was quite wild.
Octavio Dotel (8) - Dotel pitched a perfect inning. He only needed seven pitches to dispatch the mighty Phillies offense. He even struck out Jason Werth.
Ryan Franklin (9) - What is he the energizer bunny? He hasn't been sharp this season, but nine saves and a WPE of 3.64 is pretty good. Tonight he had a 1-2-3 inning on 16 pitches.
BLOWN SAVES:
Trevor Hoffman (BS5) - Why this guy has a job still I don't know. When your weapons are a 79 MPH changeup and a 88 MPH fastball you can't close. I guarantee this. Tonight he surrendered a two run homer to Scott Rolen and then gave up two more hits to lose the the game. He didn't even record in out and faced five batters. If he has a job tomorrow,
APPEARANCES:
Alfred Simon (1-1) - Simon got his first win of his career pitching 1.2 inning of a tie game. While he walked one and gave up a hit, Simon looked great and kept the score tied and eventually the win for the Orioles. While his 1.80 WHIP isn't impressive, nor is his 3.60 ERA, Simon has been a solid free agent closer and if you take away one appearance his numbers are much better.
Andrew Bailey - Bailey pitched 1.2 innings of a tie game. He looked sharp as usual and struck out one. No win, but good pitching.
Brian Fuentes - Pitched a perfect inning in a non-save situation. Now if he can only do it in a save situation.
Marinano Rivera (0-1) - Took the loss on an error by Marcus Thames that eventually allowed two runs to score on a Jeremy Hermida double. That is two bad outings in a row for the ace elite closer.
