The Closer Report: May 21, 2010
Mariano Rivera recorded his first save of May and gave up a run in doing it. That makes three straight games allowing a run for Rivera.
SAVES:
Francisco Cordero (14) - Cordero looked outstanding tonight just a night after giving up a grand slam. He got the save on ten pitches and a strikeout, facing the minimum number of batters.
Jonathan Broxton (9) - Broxton recorded his leading leading eigth save in May and ninth save overall beating the Tigers 4-1. He also struck out the side in a 1-2-3 inning.Mariano Rivera (8) - RIVERA GETS A SAVE! READ ALL ABOUT IT. Do you remember what you were doing April 30? That was the last time Rivera got a save and that makes tonight his first save in May. The save slump has ended, but not the allowing runs slump. Rivera has now giving up runs in three straight appearances.
Neftali Feliz (12) - Feliz only had a one run lead and after giving up a two out double to Tyler Colvin he still settled down and recorded the final out for his 12th save of the season.
J.C. Romero (2) - I'm no sure who is closing in Philadelphia. Contreras may have the job, but Charlie Manuel has confidence in his lefty J.C. Romero and he got the save tonight facing a pair of lefties. He hit Adrian Beltre to load up the bases and then faced David Ortiz who almost took him out of the park, but didn't.
Alfred Simon (6) - Simon nailed his sixth save of the season with a near perfect inning, giving up only a hit.
Chad Qualls (8) - Recorded a second save in as many days. He had to stave off a comeback and only recorded one out for the big save.
