THe Closer Report: May 4, 2010
Mariano Rivera missed a second day and save chance with a stiff left side.
With Nunez blowing the save there are only three closers left with a ZERO ERA. Mariano Rivera, Jonathan Broxton, and Andrew Bailey.
SAVES:
Rafael Soriano (7) - Soriano looked sharp today. He struck out two and walked one, nailing his seventh save of the season. His WHIP is down to 1.17 and ERA 2.25. He is quickly forming into an elite closer as I expected.
Matt Capps (11) - recorded his first save in May after getting ten in April. Couldn't ask for an easier save, .2 innings and four pitches.
BLOWN SAVES:
Leo Nunez (BS1) - Nunez now has an ERA. He blew his first save of the season giving up a solo home run to Aaron Rowand. His ERA is now 0.71.
APPEARANCE:
Heath Bell (2-0) - Mr. On Fire racked up another win to continue his tear for the Padres. He pitched the ninth inning and walked one, while striking out one. The Padres won it in the bottom half of the inning.
Franklin Morales (0-3) - This guy is just garbage. He didn't blow the save this time, just the game. He gave up a game winning single to Chase Headley after walking two batters.
Francisco Cordero (0-1)- Are we seeing Mr. Hyde finally? Probably not. Cordero gave up the go ahead run to the Mets pitching the ninth inning of a 4-4 score. The hit was a big fly to the hot Rod Barajas.
Matt Lindstrom - Pitched the ninth inning of a 1-0 game. Looked great, retiring all three batters he faced on six pitches.
Brian Wilson - Pitched 1.1 innings of a tie score. After a big blown save he looked fantastic tonight. He struck out one and retired all four batters he faced.
