The Closer Report: June 1, 2010
Octavio Dotel (12) - Man on Fire. That is the new nickname for Dotel. He notched his 12th save of the season and did it striking out two batters. That gives him 30 Ks on the season.
Francisco Cordero (16) - Cordero locked up another save for the hot Reds, facing only four batters and needing only 13 pitchers to finish off the Cardinals 9-8.
Rafael Soriano (15) - Soriano continued his amazing season. He is now 15/15 in save attempts. After Kevin Gregg blew his save chance, Soriano came in and gave up one unearned run on one hit, but got the save and added a strikeout.
Neftali Feliz (14) - Feliz has a wild night, but pulled out a great save. He walked the bases loaded, but ended up with no runs and stranding all three runners. He also struck out his 26th batter.
Mariano Rivera (11) - Rivera was far from perfect against the Orioles tonight, but he got the save on one hit and 19 pitches.Francisco Rodriguez (10) - KROD got beatup by the Padres for three hits and a run, but thankfully he had a three run lead going into the ninth inning. While he wasn't at his best tonight, he did strikeout two batters. My biggest concern for owning Rodriguez is his consistency. It's still not there yet.
Joakim Soria (13) - Soria nailed his 13th save of the season and looked sharp. He needed only 11 pitches to dispatch of the Angels, while striking out two.
BLOWN SAVES:
Kevin Gregg (BS3) - Blew another save Aardsma style (three or more runs), and had nothing tonight. I always feel that when Gregg get destroyed like he did tonight that something has to be bothering him and his velocity is down and his movement isn't there
Matt Lindstrom (BS2) - Lindstrom got the chance for the save after Capps blew his chance and he blew it! It was his second in as many weeks. Lindstrom looked terrible tonight. He walked the bases loaded before surrendering two runs. It just wasn't his night.
Matt Capps (0-2, BS2) - Blew his second save of the season, but he can blame it Ryan Zimmerman's error to open up the inning. Both runs he surrender were unearned, but the worse part is he allowed it to get to him and that prevented him from finishing the job.
APPEARANCES:
Carlos Marmol - Came into a tight game that the Cubs were losing 3-2 and threw three pitches to one batters. Guess what? He struck out his 50th batter of the season.
