The Closer Report: June 17, 2010
SAVES: Neftali Feliz (18), Joakim Soria (16), Francisco Rodriguez (15), Billy Wagner (12).
There wasn't allot of save action tonight, but there was plenty of closer action. Let's start in Chicago, where Andrew Bailey got one of those "BS" blown saves. His manager decided to bring hist closer in with the bases loaded and one out. Bailey got a fly ball and a strikeout, but gave up the sac fly. So his stats read .2 innings and a strikeout. In the vacuum of that sad blown save, there was a silver lining for Carlos Marmol owners. He pitched the top of the ninth and got the win. He faced three batters, retiring two of them for his second win of the season.
Neftali Feliz record his 18th save of the season and his fifth in June with a 6-4 win over the Marlins. He needed 17 pitches and faced the minimum number of batters, striking out one. Feliz has been solid lately and is putting together a tremendous season. He faced nine batters in the series with the Marlins and set them all down. He should be a All-Star without a doubt and if he'd not I'd require a very goot reason why not. KROD, Francisco Rodriguez kept pace with the Texas phenom, recording his 15th save of the season. He looked great striking out the side and bringing his strikeout total to 45. Only 10 off the pace of closer strikeout leader Carlos Marmol. In June, KROD is 6/7 in save opportunities.
