SAVES: Matt Capps (22), Brian Wilson (20), Neftali Feliz (20), Francisco Cordero (18), Heath Bell (18), David Aardsma (16), Bobby Jenks (15), Brian Fuentes (11), Johhn Axford (5), Brad Lidge (5).
Matt Capps is on a roll again and he added to an impressive day of closer activity. Capps saved his second save in as many days and his fourth in a row. The only problem for "The Capper" was he gave up two runs on four hits. Capps has been very hittable lately, giving up six hits in his last two innings of work. Whatever is going on with Capps, in June his ERA has jumped from 2.96 to 3.51.
Two more closers broke the 20 save barrier tonight. Starting with Brian Wilson, who needed only 12 pitches to beat the Houston Astros 2-1 and preserve Tim Lincecum's win. The other pitcher who recorded his 20th save was none other than Neftali Feliz. Felix has been on a streak in June, which includes seven saves in the month, and five saves since June 15. He pitched a perfect inning and struck out one beating the lowly Pirates.
Francisco Cordero finally got a save! He got his first save since June 10th and it was a fairly clean save. He gave up a couple of hits and struck out one beating the Athletics 4-2. Heath Bell also scored his 18th save of the season, closing out the Rays 2-1 and getting the win for Matt Latos. Bell struck out two and gave up a hit.
David Aardsma has had a shaky season to say the least, but right now he seems to be back to good (not to quote Matchbox 20). He saved his fourth consecutive game and hasn't given up any runs in the process. Tonight he struck out one and walked one.
