The Closer Report: June 30, 2010
SAVES: Francisco Cordero (21), Neftali Feliz (21), Joakim Soria (20), Francisco Rodriguez (18),Billy Wagner (16), Octavio Dotel (16), Alfredo Simon (10), Chris Perez (7), Aaron Heilman (4).
Plenty of action on the diamond tonight for closers. Nine saves were recorded and that was after a ten save night. Let's start in Texas where Neftali Feliz continues to impress everyone, but primarily his owners. He locked down his 21st save of the season and finished 8/8 in June. Tonight he took care of the rival Angels with ease, facing the minimum.
In Baltimore, newborn closer Alfredo Simon hit the DD mark in saves with 10 beating the Athletics 9-6. Simon recorded his fourth save since coming off the DL and did it with ease taking the Athletics down in order with a strikeout. In all ten of his saves, Simon has only given up one earned run. Octavio Dotel chipped in with his 16th save of the season, defeating the pathetic Cubs 2-0. He needed only ten pitches and gave up a harmless hit and that was all. It's been nice for Dotel owners that he is notching some saves. For the month of June he finishes with five saves, but two in the last three days.
Joakim Soria had some excitement again tonight. In Atlanta, Billy Wagner just keeps chugging. The soon to be retired closer (yea right) notched his 16th save of the season and finishes an impressive June with nine saves and a win. Even more impressive, Wagner struck out 17 batters. He struck out the three tonight alone and now has 49 Ks on the season.
Chris Perez recorded his seventh save of the season, resting Kerry Wood. No worries for Wood owners. He has pitched allot lately and got the rest he needed.
