The Closer Report: July 19. 2010
SAVES: Brian Wilson (26), Neftali Feliz (25), Jonathan Papelbon (21), John Axford (12).
Leading off an active night of saves, Jonathan Papelbon notched his 21st save securing a 2-1 win over the Athletics. Paps worked a quick and decisive inning, facing the minimum and striking out one. While in Detroit, Manager Ron Washington kept his closer in the bullpen till the 14th inning and it paid off. Neftali Feliz recorded his 25th save of the season with two strikeouts in the extra inning affair.
Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford recorded his 12th straight save since taking over the closer role. Axford had a few problems putting a couple of runners on, but eventually closed the game out with a pair of Ks. Over in LA, the Dodgers just can't catch a break or a win. They fell to the San Francisco Giants 5-2 and gave Brian Wilson his 26th save of the season. While Wilson loaded the bases, he also managed to complete the magic trick with striking out the side. Who loads the bases and strikes out the side? Brian Wilson. Listen to Todd "The True Guru" Farino breakdown all the closer activity three times a week on Blog Talk Radio.
