The Closer Report: July 8, 2010
SAVES: Mariano Rivera (23), Alfredo Simon (11), Huston Street (3), Dan Wheeler (1).
Just on the day I was considering an article on the value of David Aardsma, he takes a 3-1 loss. Now to be fair, it was the Yankees and their middle order that did the damage. Still, It's Aardsma's sixth loss (0-6). Tonight he loaded the bases and then AROD delivered the 2-RBI hit to ruin the night for Mariners' closer. While he struck out two, the night took it's took on him for 32 pitches. Expect Brandon League to steal a possible save tomorrow. On the flip side, Mariano Rivera got the save based on the true story of Aardsma's collapse. Rivera claims to be pitching injured, but he looked good tonight with 3-up and 3-down.
The love of my closer life Huston Street notched his third save of his young season, securing Jimenez's 15th win. Street wasn't at his best, surrendering a run on two hits.
Dan Wheeler saved the game for Rays tonight. Rafeal Soriano got one more day of rest after saving four straight games.
