Trade Deadline Closer Moves
The trade deadline has come and pass. Nearly every closer that I figured would be traded was traded as only Kevin Gregg remained. Here is a break down of the team impact.
Matt Capps - Joined the Twins and took over the closer role. That pushed Jon Rauch out of the job which he should never have had. Rookie stud Drew Storen will take over for Matt Capps in Washington.
Octavio Dotel - Traded to the Dodgers and will setup for Jonathan Broxton. However, he may see save chances with how bad Broxton has been lately. Evan Meek will likely take over as closer for the Pirates. Evan Meek has been dominating this year and was a All-Star.
Kerry Wood - With the resurgence of Chris Perez and Kerry Wood off the DL, Wood was traded to the Yankees. Wood is one of the more useless closers, so not much of a loss. Chris Perez will be the closer in Cleveland now and on opening day in 2011.
Chad Qualls - Qualls was DOA for 99% of fantasy teams. He lost his closer job and is now a Tampa Bay Ray. Clearly a useless move except that the Rays got a player to replace the injured Grant Balfour.
